FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Freshman infielder Riannon Thomas (Discover Bay, Calif.) earned her first weekly award from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) today, as she was named the conference's co-rookie of the week.
Thomas received the award after posting a .385 batting average over four games last week. She had at least one hit in all four outings, stroking five hits in 13 at-bats. The second baseman enjoyed a two-hit, two-RBI day in an 8-7 win over Siena College on May 2. Thomas drove home another run with a base hit against Iona College on May 7.
For the season, Thomas owns a .220 batting average with 29 hits, eight doubles, and 10 RBI. She has started 51 of her 53 appearances.
Thomas and her teammates will compete in this weekend's MAAC tournament, which takes place at DeLuca Field in Stratford, Conn. Fairfield, under head coach Julie Brzezinski, owns a 30-25 overall record and a 10-6 MAAC mark, which placed Fairfield into this weekend's tourney as the number two seed.
