FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Junior Tara Hansen picked up the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) co-player of the week award after helping the Fairfield University softball team to a 7-3 week. Hansen excelled both as a pitcher and as a batter during the seven-day run, which helped her share the award with Manhattan College catcher Kiera Fox.
In the batter's box, Hansen batted .412 over the 10-game stretch, and had at least one hit in eight of the team's 10 games. She also posted six multi-hit outings, and averaged one run scored per game. The Arizona native also played well against conference competition, hitting .308 in four conference contests.
Hansen also enjoyed a solid week in the pitching circle, appearing in six of the team's 10 games. She finished the week with a 4-0 record, which helped her raise her overall record to 9-4. Hansen picked up a victory in both ends of a doubleheader against St. Francis University, N.Y., completing the game in the opener and picking up the win with two innings of relief in the nightcap.
For the season, Hansen owns a .295 batting average with nine doubles, one triple, and one home run. She has 11 RBI, and posted a .344 on-base percentage. She has completed 12 of her 19 starts as a pitcher, and tossed a pair of shutouts. She leads the team with 64 strikeouts in 82.2 innings pitched.
Fairfield University owns a 23-17 overall record under head coach Julie Brzezinski. The Stags play four home doubleheaders over the next six days, beginning with Tuesday's twinbill against Brown University on April 19.
