2008
Season
Borst enjoyed a great deal of success against the
top three teams in the conference field, placing second on the team
with a .333 batting average during those six games. The sophomore
hit one of her two home runs, a solo homer against Canisius and
another blast against Rhode Island. Borst tallied a .275 batting
average against conference opponents, and had a hit in 10 of the 16
contests. Borst was effective on the base paths as well, steal six
bases in as many attempts. She had at least one hit in 21 games,
including eight of the last 13 outings. Borst also spent a little
time in the pitching circle, appearing in three games over the
first two weeks of the season. Her only start as a pitcher came
against Ohio University. 2007: Borst emerged as one of the team's
offensive threats over the course of 2007. After going hitless in
her first nine at-bats, Borst rebounded with five hits in eight
at-bats with five RBI in a doubleheader in Florida. From that
point, Borst batted .309 with 25 RBI and five home runs in 97
at-bats. The outfielder tallied at least one hit in 21 of her 40
appearances. Borst hit four of her five home runs against
non-conference opponents. Her lone conference home run was a grand
slam in a 4-1 win over Canisius College. Five of Borst's extra base
hits were home runs, with the other hit being a double. Borst also
contributed as a pitcher, earning a 5-5 record with a 3.92 ERA,
both of which were second on the team. She fanned 46 batters in
69-plus innings. She led the team with three saves, and came out of
the bullpen for 21 of her 24 appearances. Borst was an All-MAAC
second team pick as a freshman.
