STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Sarah Minice tossed a three-hit shutout while Kristie Trifiolis added two hits and three RBI as the Stags softball team defeated Holy Cross by a 7-0 count at the Stony Brook Invitational.

The Stags scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Meghan Borst started the rally with a triple down the right field line. Kayla Marth followed with a double that hugged the left field line that put the Stags in front 1-0. Maleah Cousineau drove home the second run with a single, and came out of the game for pinch runner Kristen Bowen. Bowen went to second base after Jessica Stand sliced a single through the left side, putting runners on first and second.

Trifiolis sent both runners home with a double to deep center field that put Fairfield in front by a 4-0 count. Lisa Meringer pushed the score to 5-0 with an RBI single. She stole second and came home with the final run of the inning, courtesy of Kristina Lingo's double to left center field.

Fairfield's final run came in the sixth frame thanks to a single by Stand, a stolen base, and single by Trifiolis. As the Stags offense clicked for seven runs, Minice kept Holy Cross in check throughout the afternoon. The right hander surrendered just three singles, and struck out 11 batters in seven innings of work.

The Stags return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Providence College for a doubleheader.
