
Softball Comes Up Short In First Day Of Stony Brook Invitational

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Kristie Trifiolis recorded three hits including a home run as the Stags softball team dropped two games on the first day of the Stony Brook Invitational. Fairfield lost to Stony Brook by a 7-2 score and to Quinnipiac by a 6-0 count.
Against Stony Brook, the Seawolves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Stags tied the game in the third. Jenna DiBernardo led off with a walk and took second on a wild pitch. She came home when Trifiolis sliced a single to right field which tied the game at 1-1. A two-run double put the Seawolves back in front in the third inning before Trifiolis brought the Stags closer with a solo home run. Stony Brook put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, making the final score 7-2.
In the second game, Fairfield managed just four hits off the Quinnipiac pitching staff, as Kristina Lingo, Meghan Borst, DiBernardo, and Trifiolis managed a base hit for the Stags. The Bobcats scored three runs in the fourth inning as Rachel Felker hit a two-run double to highlight the inning. Quinnipiac also added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to back Heather Schwartzburg's four-hit shutout.
The Stags finish their three-game set at the Stony Brook Invitational by taking on Holy Cross on Sunday.
