LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- After a hard-luck loss in the opener, sophomore pitcher Sarah Minice came back by tossing a no-hitter in the nightcap to help the Fairfield University softball team earn a split with Siena College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheader with a 3-0 win.

The Saints won the opener by a 2-1 margin following a walk-off home run by Lauren Weingart, only the second hit allowed by Minice in the game. The Stags jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the fifth inning. Jessica Stand walked, and took second when Kristie Trifiolis beat out a bunt to place runners on first and second. Dani Griswold advanced the two runners with a sacrifice, setting up Meghan Borst's RBI ground out.

Siena tied the game in the bottom of the inning courtesy of an error and a passed ball, making the score 1-1. Neither team scored in the sixth inning, while the Stags came up empty in the top of the seventh. Weingart led off the bottom of the inning and launched a solo home run which handed Fairfield its first conference loss of the season.

In the second game, the two teams played a scoreless game until the top of the seventh inning when Fairfield sent home three base runners. Stand started the rally with a base hit and took second base off Trifiolis' ground out. Griswold followed with an RBI double that made the score 1-0. Borst put the game out of reach with a two-run home run to center field that pushed the margin to 3-0.

Minice retired the three batters she faced in the seventh inning, fanning two of those hitters which gave her nine strikeouts in the game. Siena's base runners came on an error and two walks.

Fairfield returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Iona College for a MAAC doubleheader.
