Softball Edged By Sacred Heart In 4-0 Shutout

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Three Fairfield hitters recorded a base hit but the Stags could not muster much more as Sacred Heart University handed the Stags softball team a 4-0 defeat at Alumni Softball Field.

The Stags used three different pitchers in the game with Meghan Borst getting the start. She hurled four innings and surrendered two runs on four hits with three stirkeouts. Borst posted Fairfield's first hit in the game, a single to right field in the fourth frame. Dani  Griswold and Maleah Cosineau each stroked a base hit in the game.

The Pioneers scored the first two runs in the third inning, the big hit coming off the bat of Amanda Bradley. Sacred Heart doubled its lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning as Courtney Lee hit a two-run homer over the center field fence against Danielle Iovino.

Pioneers pitcher Liz Tsipouras allowed two hits over the first six innings before yielding to Kylie Abrams in the seventh inning. Abrams completed the shutout by allowing one hit without allowing a run.

Fairfield closes out the regular season by hosting Manhattan College with the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular-season title on the line. The doubleheader begins at 1 pm.
