Softball Earns Split In Orlando With Win Over Detroit Mercy, Loss To Lehigh

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Kristie Trifiolis and Kristina Lingo had three hits each with Trifiolis hitting a solo homer as the softball team split a pair of contests at the Rebel Games on Monday evevning. The Stags dropped a 7-1 decision to Lehigh in the opener, but followed with a 10-7 victory against Detroit Mercy.

Trifiolis accounted for the team's lone run against Lehigh, hitting a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kristina Lingo stroked the team's other hit, a base hit earlier in the game. Fairfeild used three pitchers in the contest with Meghan Borst getting the start. Danielle Iovino entered the game in the sixth, and yielded to Sarah Minice in the seventh. Lehigh scored five runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run single by Jennifer Colquhoun. She added an RBI double in a two-run sixth inning for the Hawks.

The Stags belted out a season-high 12 hits against Detroit Mercy, as Lisa Meringer led all Fairfield hitters with three hits. Kayla Marth, Trifiolis, and Lingo each had two hits to help the Stags cause. After giving up a run in the second inning, Fairfield scored three runs in the top of the third  Meringer had an RBI in the inning, while three Detroit Mercy errors helped the other two runs to score.

The home team plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth which put the Stags a run behind at 4-3. Fairfeild responded with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Lingo sent home the first run with an RBI double, while Borst followed with an RBI single to push Fairfield back in front. Allie Ritacco drove home two runners with a double to cap the big inning. Detroit Mercy tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the inning, knotting the score at 7-7.

Fairfield scored the winning runs in the next inning, the first coming off a passed ball. Kayla Marth chased home two more runs with an RBI single, sending home Lingo and Borst to give the Stags a 10-7 advantage. Sara Minice went the distance for Fairfield to earn her second win of the season.
