Softball Splits For Second Straight Day With Win Over Holy Cross, Loss To St. Francis

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Meghan Borst earned her first win of the season as Allie Ritacco and Kristie Trifiolis each posted two hits in a 5-1 win over Holy Cross. The Stags dropped the first game by a 10-1 count to St. Francis.

Against Holy Cross, Borst fanned four hitters, scattered six hits, and allowed one run in picking up the win. She allowed the run in the sixth inning, after the Stags had taken a 2-0 lead. Fairfield posted the first run in the third inning when Ritacco led off with a base hit. A sacrifice bunt and a wild pitch put Ritacco on third base, setting up an RBI ground out by Jessica Stand.

The score improved to 2-0 in the sixth inning when Trifiolis sliced a single up the middle and followed with a stolen base. She took came home when Kristina Lingo drove an RBI triple to the outfield gap. Holy Cross cut the lead in half off an RBI ground out, making the score 2-1. Fairfield put the game out of reach with three runs in the top of the seventh, the first coming off Ritacco's RBI double and another coming home off Trifiolis' base hit.

St. Francis took control of the game early with a pair of runs in the first inning and a single run in the third frame. The team tallied four more runs in the fourth inning and tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh frame to make the score 10-0. Fairfield had just one hit in the game when Kayla Marth drove home one of the team's two runs with a single to center field, scoring Lingo.
