
Softball Completes Florida Trip By Dropping Games To IPFW & Valaparaiso

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Stags softball team completed its 10-game Florida swing by dropping a game to IPFW by a 2-1 count and to Valaparaiso by an 8-1 score at the Rebel Games.
In the opener, Fairfield and Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne played to a scoreless tie through the first seven innings. The game utilized the international tie breaker rule, allowing each team to place a runner on second to start the eighth inning. Kristie Trifiolis sent home Fairfield's only run with an RBI double that gave the Stags a 1-0 lead. IPFW took the lead by scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning with a fielder's choice and a run-scoring single.
In the second game, Valaparaiso scored all the runs it would need in the fourth inning by sending home three base runners to take a 3-0 lead. Fairfield scored its only run in the fourth inning when Kristina Lingo hit a double and came home on Kayla Marth's RBI two-base hit which made the score 4-1. Valaparaiso scored three more runs in the fifth inning and tacked on a run in the seventh inning to finish the scoring. Laura Carta and Dani Griswold each had a base hit for the Stags, as the team finished the game with four hits.
