
Borst, Minice Lead Softball Team To 6-4 Win Over Quinnipiac

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Meghan Borst went three for four with two RBI and a double, while Sarah Minice fanned seven hitters to earn her fourth win as the softball posted a 6-4 win over Quinnipiac in the Stags' home opener.
The Bobcats opened the scoring when Rachel Felker hit a solo home run over the center field fence. Fairfield took the lead for good in the bottom of third inning when Borst hit a two-run double to left-center field, chasing home Jessica Stand and Kristie Trifiolis.
The Stags pushed two runs home in the bottom of the fourth frame when a misplayed grounder by Stand allowed Kristen Bowen and Jenna DiBernardo for a 4-1 Fairfield lead. The home team added a single run in the fifth and sixth innings to make the score 6-1. In the fifth, Borst led off the inning with a triple down the right-field line. She cross home plate as part of a double steal with Allie Ritacco, who reached base following a walk.
Trifiolis started the sixth inning rally with a double, and came home when Kristina Lingo singled to right field. Quinnipiac made things interesting in the top of the seventh inning by scoring three runs. Kelly Wall sent home a pair of runs with an opposite-field double, while Felker followed with an RBI single. Minice ended the game when she induced Heather Maffeo into a grounder to shortstop.
DiBernardo and Trifiolis each registered two hits, while Stand added a single and an RBI.
