Apr 14, 2009

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Sophomore Sarah Minice (Bellevue, Wash.) earned her second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Pitcher of the Week honor after she tossed her first collegiate no-hitter against Siena as the Stags earned a split with the Saints last week. In the first game of the Siena doubleheader, Minice gave up a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh in a 2-1 setback.

She yielded just two hits and gave up only one earned run in that first game, but rebounded by tossing the no-hitter in a 3-0 shutout against Siena. In that game, she fanned nine hitters and walked just two for her 11th win of the season. Minice finished the doubleheader with 12 strikeouts, five walks, and two hits in 13 innings of work.

The Fairfield University softball team, under head coach Julie Brzezinski, hold first place in the MAAC softball standings. The team hosts second-place Canisius College on Saturday afternoon, beginning at noon.
