Minice Earns MAAC Softball Pitcher Of The Week Award

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Sarah Minice (Bellevue, Wash.) earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) pitcher of the week after earning four conference wins in 4-2 week for the Stags softball team.

Minice posted a 4-0 record with a 0.83 ERA in 25 innings of work, including a pair of complete games against Rider University last Tuesday. She did not allow an earned run in the two games as the Stags posted a 1-0 win in the opener and a 6-1 decision in the nightcap. She allowed six hits in her 14 innings of work.

Five days later, the sophomore won the first game of a doubleheader against Marist by a 7-3 count, and picked up her fourth win of the week in the nightcap by pitching four-plus innings of relief in a 4-3 decision. In her four appearances, Minice allowed more than three hits in just one game. She struck out 11 hitters and allowed just one extra base hit.

Minice improved to 9-7 on the season with the four wins, and lowered her ERA to 3.15 in 16 appearances. She has 70 strikeouts in 97 innings pitched during the 2009 season.

The Fairfield University softball team, under head coach Julie Brzezinski, owns a 13-16 overall record and sits in first place in the MAAC with a 4-0 record.. The Stags return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Quinnipiac University for a single game at 3 pm.
