POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Sarah Minice earned a pair of wins in the pitching circle while Kayla Marth hit two home runs in the nightcap, as the Stags softball team remained unbeaten in MAAC play following a sweep of Marist College.
Meghan Borst was almost solely responsible for the team's win in the opener as she posted four RBI and a home run in a 7-3 decision. She hit a two-run single in the fifth and added a two-run homer in the seventh. Jessica Stand also posted a home run in the third, a solo shot that made the score 2-0. Minice went the distance, allowing seven hits and five walks in seven innings of work in her eighth victory of the season.
In the second game, Marth provided the offense that the Stags need in what proved to be a close game. The freshman launched a one-out home run in the second inning which pushed the Stags in front by a 1-0 score. Allie Ritacco followed with a walk, and went to second after Alli Wigand picked up a base hit. After a force out at third base, Stand walked to load the bases, setting up Kristie Trifiolis' two-run single which made the score 3-0.
After Marist pushed a run across in the bottom of the inning, Marth drove her second homer of the game in the top of third, which proved to be the game-winning run. Borst pitched the first two-plus innings before yielding to Minice. The sophomore allowed just two hits and did not walk a batter over the final four-plus innings.
