Kayla Marth Earns MAAC Softball Rookie Of The Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Catcher Kayla Marth (Easton, Md.) earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week award after helping the Fairfield University softball team post four wins last week. Marth earned her second rookie of the week award this season, also collecting the honor on March 8.

The freshman batted a team-best .571 over seven games last week with three RBI and three doubles. She owned a .714 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage. Marth recorded 12 hits and scored six runs over the seven-game stretch. She had at least one hit in six of the seven games, including five multiple-hit contests. In MAAC play, Marth batted .417 (five hits, 12 at-bats) with four runs scored in four games.

For the season, Marth ranks fourth among her teammates with a .272 batting average with 28 h its in 37 appearances. She has eight extra base hits with six doubles and two homers, along with 18 RBI.

The Stags, under head coach Julie Brzezinski, play three games this week beginning with an away game against Sacred Heart University on Thursday, April 23. Fairfield looks to improve on its 8-2 MAAC record when it hosts Saint Peter's College for a doubleheader on April 26.
