
Softball Sweeps Central Connecticut At Home

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Dani Griswold had three RBI, scored two runs, and threw out two runners at home plate to help the Stags softball team sweep a home doubleheader with Central Connecticut. The Stags won the opener by a 6-4 score and 7-6.
Griswold scored the team's first run in the opener as the Stags plated three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-0 lead. Central Connecticut would tie the game with a single run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, with the third run coming home on a double by Kendall Sours. Fairfield took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth when Meghan Borst sent home a run with a double and Kayla Marth tacked on another run with a sacrifice fly.
Pitcher Sarah Minice made those runs stand, despite yielding a run in the top of the seventh frame. The Stags also received a boost off Jenna DiBernardo's home run in the bottom of the sixth. Minice finished the game with six strikeouts and surrendered five hits.
Fairfield jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings during the second game, as Griswold laced a three-run double in the the second frame. The Blue Devils responded with five runs in the next inning, as they registered four hits in the rally. The Stags regained the lead in the bottom of the inning as Borst and Marth each scored during the inning. After Central Connecticut tied the game, the Stags grabbed the lead for good in the fifth when Allie Ritacco led off with a single and came home on Maleah Cousineau's double.
The Stags open the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) portion of their schedule on Sunday when they travel to Rider University.
