
Minice, Borst Named To NFCA All-Northeast Region Team

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Sarah Minice (Bellevue, Wash.) and Meghan Borst (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) earned a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Northeast Region team. The two student athletes will be placed on the All-America ballot.
Minice was one of five pitchers named to the All-Region team after posting 18 wins with a 2.44 ERA through the regular season. The right hander pitched in 186 innings during the regular season before tossing 26 innings in the 2009 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, which includes a 16-inning marathon against Manhattan College. Minice fannedover 150 batters in 2009. She was named the MAAC Pitcher of the Year and was selected to the All-MAAC first team.
Borst collected All-Region honors at the utility/pitcher position
after tossing 92 innings from the pitching circle and leading the
team with four home runs and 29 RBI. She placed second among her
teammates with a .284 batting average. She was also tops on the
team with 17 extra base hits, registering 11 doubles, two triples,
and four homers. She was the co-leader with 11 stolen bases in 12
attempts.
The Fairfield University softball team, under head coach Julie Brzezinski, finished the 2009 season with a 21-26 overall record after capturing the MAAC regular-season title with an 11-5 conference slate.
