Rowing Teams Compete At 2009 MAAC Championships

PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J. -- The Fairfield University rowing teams competed at the 2009 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships on Sunday, as the women finished third and the men were fourth in the event. The women tallied 154 points, as Loyola captured the title with 174 points. The men registered 68 points, as Marist earned the title.

The men's pair, the women's novice 8, and the women's second varsity 8 each picked up a victory in the championship. The duo cross the finish line in 8:08.4, nearly 17 seconds better than runner up Marist College. The women's crew posted a time of 7:55.2 to win its event, as Loyola placed second with a time of 8:04.3. Fairfield's B entry was sixth in the event with a time of 9:04.2. In the second varsity 8, the Stags rowed the course in 8:30, beating Marist by seven seconds.

In other action, the women's varsity eight took fifth place (8?08.0), while the men's varsity eight secured fourth (7:08.6). The women's pair was third with a time of 9:45.4, while the women's novice 4 was edged out for first by Loyola, finishing second in 8:53.7.

The men's varsity 4 was fourth in its race (8:03.5), and the women's varsity lightweight 4 was third (9:12.9). The women's varsity 4 crossed the line in 8:58.6, which was third in the event. The men's junior varsity 4 was third with a time of 8:11.
