The Fairfield University women’s lacrosse team will host the University of California in a non-conference game on Sunday, March 21 at noon.  While competing on the field, the two teams will be joining together to help raise awareness and money for the fight against breast cancer.

“Breast cancer is a disease that is prevalent around the nation and it is imperative that people are made aware of its impact,” said Stags head coach Mike Waldvogel.  “Nearly everyone, at some point in their lifetime, will be touched in some way by this disease and I hope that by bringing attention to it during our game with Cal, our two programs can, in some small way, help eradicate breast cancer,”

Fans that attend the game will receive information about the fight against breast cancer.  They can also help support the fight in a financial manner, by participating in the ‘Sticking It To Cancer’ fundraiser.  Fairfield and Cal are asking their fans and supporters to pledge any amount per point and assist scored by either team, or both teams, during the contest.  All proceeds will benefit Rally for the Cure®, the largest supporter of the Susan G. Komen for a Cure Foundation.

Fairfield will be accepting donations at the gate on Sunday, and admission to the contest is free.  In addition, there will be raffles held throughout the game for a variety of prizes.

Fans who wish to make a pledge prior to the game can do so by clicking here.  Pledge sheets will also be available at the game.

Fairfield is currently 4-1 on the year and will host Lehigh University at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.  The Stags are averaging 17.2 points per game this season.  Cal, 1-4 on the year, will play at Quinnipiac on Friday.  The Bears, coming off of an overtime loss to #11 Notre Dame, are averaging 12.4 points per game.
