FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Anne Nieuwenhuis scored the Fairfield University field hockey team's lone goal in a 3-1 decision against Villanova. It was her third goal in as many games this season.

The Wildcats wasted little time in taking the lead as Lauren Wuzzardo controlled a rebound off goalkeeper Caitlin O'Donnell's initial save, and pushed it past her with a one-time shot that made the score 1-0. The visiting team increased its advantage when Dana Ramsden converted a cross from Meredith Sabatini 13 minutes into the half for a 2-0 lead.

Fairfield broke through against Villanova goalkeeper Maura McCormick when Anne Nieuwenhuis slapped a shot into the goal. The score came off a penalty corner, set up by Melanie Leo. Villanova took control of the game with its third goal of the game, courtesy of Sam Haas' unassisted goal with 22 minutes remaining on the clock.

O'Donnell finished with seven saves for the Stags, while McCormick and Megan Goelz each made two saves for a total of four stops for the Wildcats. Amanda Sullivan played well for the Stags defense, making two defensive saves in the contest.
