BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Michelle Onofrio tallied the game's only goal just three minutes into the contest to lift the Fairfield University field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Vermont. The victory ended the Stags' regular season with a 5-12 overall record and a 1-4 America East mark.

Fairfield received all the offense it would need early in the game, as Onofrio controlled a loose ball after goalkeeper Kristen Heavens kicked away a shot. Onofrio pushed the ball to the far corner before Heavens could react, resulting in a 1-0 Fairfield lead.

Megan Ambrose played 70 minutes in the Fairfield goal, and made four saves to record her first shutout this season. The sophomore posted 19 saves in her five games played in 2009. Heavens tallied seven saves in the Vermont goal.
