BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team managed to battle back and tie the game twice, but could not find a way to win the game as Lehigh University posted a 3-2 victory in overtime.

Lehigh opened the scoring just seven minutes into the game when Kimberly Eng converted a three-on-one opportunity, beating goalkeeper Megan Ambrose to the near side which gave the home team a 1-0 advantage. The Stags tied the game in dramatic fashion when Marit Westenberg hit a hard shot that kicked off the goalkeeper's pads and trickled into the net with five seconds remaining in the half.

Lehigh went back in front after Taryn Hartzell tallied her second goal of the season by striking a shot from the top of the circle, pushing her team in front by a 2-1 count. Once again, Fairfield used a late offensive run to tie the game. Molly Byrnes released a shot after the Stags were awarded a penalty corner. Carly McCullough picked up the assist on the tying goal.

Neither team managed much offense in the overtime, as Lehigh recorded the only shot in extra time. Morgan Christopher took that shot and it found the back of the cage, resulting in the game-winning goal seven  minutes into overtime.

Ambrose made four saves for Fairfield, while Lila Stefaniwsky made eight saves. The Stags return to action on Saturday when they host Maine on Senior Day. Game time is 1 pm.
