Field Hockey Road Trip Ends With 5-2 Setback To Columbia

Sep 24, 2009

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Anne Nieuwenhuis and Michelle Onofrio each scored a goal for the Stags field hockey team but it was not enough to offset Columbia's offensive attack as the Lions posted a 5-2 win at home.

The Stags lit up the scoreboard fist when Nieuwenhuis converted a goal off a penalty corner. Molly Byrnes set up the defender with a direct pass off the corner at 21:45. Columbia tied the game just 45 seconds laster when Julia Garrison secured a rebound off an initial shot, which tucked under goalkeeper Caitlin O'Donnell.

Christine Buszczak put the Lions in front with a goal following a rebound, giving the home team a one-goal edge. A counter attack goal made the score 3-1 in the second half as Julie Hatchett finished off a scoring chance which made the score 3-1.

Buszczak finished off the Columbia scoring which gave the senior a hat trick and pushed the home team in front by several goals. The Stags second goal was set up by Nieuwenhuis' shot off a penalty corner which Onofrio deflected past the goalkeeper which pulled Faifield to within two goals at 4-2.
