Field Hockey Falls To Boston University By A 5-0 Count

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team came up short in its bid to post a win in America East, dropping a 5-0 decision to Boston University at University Field.

The Terriers scored twice in the first half, the first goal coming with 22 minutes remaining in the first half. Jacinda McLeod scored an unassisted goal which started with a penalty corner. Nicole van Oosterom scored with 13 minutes left in the half, the first of her five points on the day.

Boston University pushed the lead to 3-0 when van Oosterom tallied an unassisted goal just two minutes into the start of the second half. She stole a pass inside the circle, spun around to her left and released a shot that caught the far corner. The score went to 4-0 five minutes later as Rachael White lifted a shot that caught the back of the net after she controlled a rebound. The final goal came with under four minutes on the clock as van Oosterom set up Leslie Zules.

Terrier goalkeeper Amanda Smith made two saves before yielding to Julie Collins with three minutes remaining. Megan Ambrose received the start in goal for Fairfield, but Caitlin O'Donnell played the second half.

Fairfield returns to action on October 14 when it travels to Lehigh University for a 3 pm game.
