Oct 26, 2008
FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team surrendered two goals off penalty corners, resulting in a 3-0 loss to Yale University in the final home game of the 2008 season.
The Stags came out with a great deal of offensive pressure in the opening minutes and outshot the Bulldogs early. However, Yale took full advantage of its opportunities midway through the opening half. The team was rewarded with a penalty corner 19 minutes into the game, which Dinah Landshut finished for a goal on the visiting team's first shot of the game.
Less than two minutes later, Yale picked up another penalty corner opportunity and converted at 20:51. Katie Cantore picked up her second assist of the game while Marissa Waldemore also collected an assist on Julia Weisner's goal. Despite trailing by a 2-0 score, Fairfield still managed to hold a 7-4 advantage in shots at halftime.
Yale tallied the game's final goal with just over 30 minutes remaining when Landshut past the ball to Mia Rosati on the left side of the circle. Rosati pushed the ball past Fairfield goalkeeper Jennifer Utz for a goal and to put the Bulldogs in front by a 3-0 count.
Utz finished the game with two saves, while Yale goalkeeper Katie Bolling registered eight saves to record the shutout. Fairfield finished the game with 13 shots, three more than its opponent.
The Stags finish the regular season on the road next Saturday when they take on the University of Maine in an America East contest.
