Field Hockey Surrenders Back-To-Back Goals In 2-1 Setback To Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- After scoring the game's first goal, the Fairfield University field hockey team surrendered two goals which resulted in a 2-1 loss to Saint Joseph's University. The Hawks scored a goal in the first and second half of the victory.

The Stags jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half when Marit Westenberg's shot beat SJU goalkeeper Kelly Swanick in just the third minute of the game. Amy Hosking started the penalty corner, while Katherine Donovan stopped the ball and set up Westenberg's second goal of the season.

Saint Joseph's tied the game when Anne Schreuders controlled a rebound and pushed the ball past Fairfield goaltender Jennifer Utz to make the score 1-1 with 20 minutes left in the first half. The Hawks scored the game-winning goal in the second half when Marisa Pizzi accepted a pass in the center of the circle off Schreuders cross.

Swanick finished the game with seven saves as the Stags owned a 19-10 advantage, the third time that Fairfield has outshot its opponents. Utz was credited with two saves while Amanda Love garnered a defensive save for the Stags.

Fairfield returns to action on Sunday when it stays in Philadelphia for a match up with Villanova.
