HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University field hockey team surrendered a goal in first half and another in the second half as Hofstra University posted a 2-0 win over the Stags.

The Pride jumped out to a 1-0 lead just seven minutes into the game when Erica Suitch scored an unassisted goal. Fairfield had a few opportunities to score in the opening half, and actually outshot Hofstra by a slim 5-4 count. Amanda Heyde made three saves for Hofstra to keep the Stags off the scoreboard.

Fairfield put together seven shots in the second half, but once again Heyde was equal to the challenge. The goalkeeper made three more saves to push her game total to six stops for the game. Hofstra took advantage of its best opportunity when Genna Kovar converted a pass from Charlia Warner with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game.

Jennifer Utz made five saves for the Stags as she faced 14 shots in the game. Fairfield returns to action on Wednesday afternoon when the team travels to Quinnipiac University for a 4 pm match up with the Bobcats.
