
Janis Tallies Lone Goal In Field Hockey's 1-0 Win Over Cornell

The Fairfield University field hockey team earned a 1-0 win over
visiting Cornell University this afternoon on University
Field. The win improves the Stags record to 3-8, while the
Big Red fall to 4-4.
Fairfield tallied the only goal of the game early in the second
half on a penalty corner, with Emily Janis tallying the
goal.. Amy Hosking started the play, sending the ball to the
top of the circle where it was stopped by Katherine Donovan. It was
the Stags lone penalty corner, and shot, of the second half.
The Fairfield defense was solid in front of keeper Megan Ambrose,
who made three saves in posting the shutout. The Stags
withstood an 11 shot attack from Cornell, including a pair of
penalty corners in the waning seconds of regulation. The Big Red
started the game with offensive pressure as well, taking four shots
in the opening minutes of the game, hitting the post with one of
those shots.
Cornell outshot Fairfield for the game 11-7, including 7-1 in the
second half. Big Red keeper Ale Botte made six saves in the
game.
Fairfield returns to action on Wednesday Oct. 1 at Brown, with
game-time set for 4 p.m.
