
Field Hockey Falls To Boston University On Goal With No Time Remaining

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Boston University erased a two-goal deficit and scored the game-winning goal with no time left on the clock to post a 3-2 win over the Fairfield University field hockey team. The game featured two teams that were 1-0 in conference play heading into today's action.
The Stags jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first seven minutes of the game. Marit Westenberg put Fairifeld in front just two minutes into the contest. Amanda Love sent a pass to the freshman at the top of the circle, who released a shot that caught the right corner of the goal for a 1-0 advantage.
Five minutes later, Westenberg passed the ball from the right side of the circle back to the top of the arc where Molly Byrnes stood waiting for the ball. The senior pushed a shot toward the goal that beat Terrier goalkeeper Kim Kastuk to the left side for a 2-0 Fairfield lead.
Nikki Lloyd finally broke through for Boston University when she scored the team's first goal in the 44th minute to make the score 2-1. Four minutes later, Gabby Hajjar carried the ball from the quarter line and cut by two defenders before putting a shot on the cage that went past Fairfield goalkeeper Jennifer Utz to tie the score at 48:48.
The final goal occured on the final play of the game when Boston University was awarded a penalty corner in the closing seconds of the game. Hajjar started the play and sent the ball directly to Haley Robinson, who one-timed a shot past the Fairfield defense to win the game with no time on the clock.
Utz finished the game with eight saves at Boston University outshot the Stags by a 22-6 count, including 14-4 in the second half. Fairfield took two shots in the first half and scored on both attempts.
