
Field Hockey Falls To Albany At Home By 4-1 Count

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Molly Byrnes put the Fairfield University field hockey team into the lead with a goal just one minute into the game, but the University at Albany answered with two goals in each half to register a 4-1 win over the Stags in an America East contest.
Fairfield attacked the goal early which set up its first scoring chance of the game. Emily Janis started the play with a shot that was turned away by Albany goalkeeper Ashley Ross. Byrnes stepped into the play at the center of the circle and push the rebound of Janis' shot past Ross for a 1-0 lead just 1:11 into the contest.
Albany took a little while to establish its offense, but finally put together a few scoring opportunities with under 20 minutes left in the first half. Alysia Hough broke through at the 24 minute mark, picking up a loose ball outside the circle and beating her defender to right side for an open look at the goal.
Michele Polizois scored the next three goals for the Danes, the first two coming off a penalty corner. Jess Lindsey started both plays when she sent the ball into play from the corner. Michelle Simpson was the stopper on both plays, setting up Polizois in the 34th minute and the 39th minute. Her final goal came at 49:49 after Fairifeld was whistled for an infraction thta lead to a penalty stroke.
The Danes enjoyed a 17-2 advantage in penalty corners as well as a 17-6 edge in shots. Jennifer Utz made seven saves for the Stags, while her counterpart Ashley Ross registered four stops for Albany.
Fairfield returns to action on October 25 when it hosts New Hampshire in its final conference home game. The Stags will also celebrate Senior Day next weekend when they host Yale University on October 26.
