Men's Soccer Posts Second Straight Shutout With 1-0 Win Over St. Francis
Sep 26, 2009
BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Michael O'Keefe posted his second straight shutout for the Fairfield University men's soccer team, as the Stags won its second consecutive game with a 1-0 decision over St. Francis, N.Y.
Fairfield picked up all it would need on this evening when the team was awarded a corner kick 10 minutes into the game. Matthew Uy sent the ball across the field into the center of the box, where Matt Ernst redirected the ball with his head for the game's only goal. It was the second goal of the season for Ernst.
St. Francis had several opportunities to tie the game, including one excellent opportunity late in the first half. The Terriers were awarded a free kick which nearly resulted in a goal, but O'Keefe made a diving stop to his right side to keep the home team off the scoreboard.
The Terriers finished the game with 12 shots, five more than the Stags. Fairfield will try and even up its record on September 30 when the team will host New Hampshire at Lessing Field. Game time is slated for 7 pm.
