Cipriano Earns Third ECAC Rookie Of The Week Award

Apr 20, 2009

Fairfield University men's lacrosse freshman Charlie Cipriano (Williston Park, N.Y.) was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Rookie of the Week.  It marks the third time this season the Stags keeper has been earned the Rookie of the Week award, and his fifth weekly honor all told.

A graduate of The Herricks School, Cipriano made a career-high 17 saves in the Stags ECAC game at Loyola on Saturday.  He posted a .586 save percentage in the game, as he had the eighth double-digit save game of his Fairfield career.  In addition, the rookie picked up a career-best five ground balls, while also causing a turnover.

Cipriano has started all 11 games for the Stags in net and ranks fourth in the ECAC with a .552 save percentage. He has earned six wins and has a GAA of 8.11 entering the final week of the Stags regular season.

Fairfield, 6-5 overall and 3-2 in ECAC play, will close out the year with a pair of home games, beginning Tuesday with #15 UMass on Lessing Field at 3 p.m.  The Stags defeated UMass last season, 10-9, for the first win ever over the Minutemen.  A Stags win in the contest will keep their hopes of an ECAC Lacrosse League crown alive, while a loss eliminates the team from postseason contention.
