
Cipriano Makes Career-High 17 Saves In 12-7 Loss At Loyola

The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team dropped a 12-7 decision to #15 Loyola College in an ECAC Lacrosse League contest Saturday afternoon. The Stags fall to 6-5 overall and 3-2 in league play, while the Greyhounds improve to 8-4 on the season and 5-1 in ECAC action.
Nick Baglio gave the Stags the lead 4:04 into the game, scoring a pas from John Snellman, for a 1-0 advantage, but it would proof to be the team's only shot of the quarter. Loyola recorded a dozen shots in the first period, netting five of them, all in a 4:03 span, to take a 5-1 lead.
The Stags fought back as the second quarter opened with goals from Snellman (12:07) and Chris Trombino (10:58) to make the deficit two goals, 5-3. After a Loyola goal made it 6-3, Chris Ajemian struck with 7:46 to play in the half to get back within two goals. Loyola wrapped up the first-half scoring with 35 seconds to play in the period to take a 7-4 edge into the locker room.
Fairfield struck first again in the third quarter, as Ajemian scored a man-up goal with 7:33 to play, making the score 7-5. Loyola tallied the final two goals of the third quarter and the first three of the final stanza to build a 12-5 lead with 2:10 to play. Brent Adams ended the five-goal run by Loyola with his tally with 64 seconds to play and Graham Bergsma ended the scoring with an unassisted tally with 13 seconds to play.
Charlie Cipriano made a career-high 17 saves in net for the Stags, playing the entire game. He also recorded five ground balls and a caused turnover. Jake Hagelin earned the win in net for Loyola, making nine saves in 57:21, allowing five goals.
Fairfield was out shot for the game 42-29 and won 9-23 face-offs on the day. Loyola also had an advantage in ground balls, 38-33, and committed fewer turnovers, 19-11. Fairfield was 1-2 in man-up chances; Loyola was 1-3, while the Stags went 14-19 in clears.
The Stags will close out the regular season with a pair of home games this week. Fairfield will host UMass on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and St. John's on Saturday at 1 p.m.
