Men's Lacrosse Makes Last Road Trip To #15 Loyola On Saturday
Apr 17, 2009
The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team concludes the road portion of its schedule on Saturday, travelling to ECAC Lacrosse League for Loyola College. The Stags are 6-4 on the year, with a 3-1 mark in ECAC play, while the Greyhounds are 7-4 overall and 4-1 in conference action. The game is set for 3 p.m., following the Greyhounds women's lacrosse game.
The Stags are 1-8 all-time against the Greyhounds, with the lone victory coming at home in 2006, 13-12. Loyola has won the last two meetings by a combined 32-6 score.
The contest has ECAC title implications as well. The Stags close out the regular season with three league contests, playing UMass and St. John's at home Tuesday and Saturday of next week. Should the Stags win all three contests they would capture the ECAC crown and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. Fairfield appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2002 and 2005 as the champions of the Great West Lacrosse League. UMass is 4-0 in league play, while the Greyhounds are 4-1 entering the game on Saturday.
Fairfield is looking to snap a two-game losing streak on Saturday. The team is wrapping up its second three-game road trip of the year, having gone a perfect 3-0 on the first trip. All told, the Stags are 3-3 in road games this year, and a win over the Greyhounds would give the team its first winning record in road games since the 2006 team went 4-3.
