Men's Lacrosse Looks For First-Ever Win Over Georgetown Saturday in Washington, DC

The 19/20 Fairfield University men's lacrosse team begins a three-game road trip on Saturday at #20 Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.  The Stags, who have won four straight games, are 6-2 overall and in first-place in the ECAC at 3-0. The Hoyas, winners of two of their last three outings, are 4-5 on the year and 1-2 in league play.

For the first time this season the Stags have cracked the top-20 in both of the national polls.  Fairfield received 38 votes in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media poll, to sit 19th and earned nine votes to garner 20th in the USILA Coaches poll.  The Stags also moved up one spot, to fourth, in this weeks NEILA Coaches poll.

Fairfield and Georgetown are meeting for the fourth time, all as members of the ECAC Lacrosse League.  The Hoyas are 3-0 in the series, though the games the last two years have been decided by a total of three goals, including an 8-7 meeting the last time the teams played at Georgetown in 2007.

The game at Georgetown marks the beginning of the team's second three game road trip, in the midst of playing six of seven games on the road.  The Stags are 3-1 in its road games this season, averaging 6.9 goals per game.  The Stags have won their last three road games, allowing just 17 goals in that stretch.  John Snellman has tallied six of his 12 goals on the road, and leads the team with seven points in road games.  Chris Ajemian has a team-high 12 ground balls in the four road contests as well as two goals and two assists.  Charlie Cipriano has made 41 saves away from home this season.

Fairfield is atop the ECAC through games of March 31st, with a perfect 3-0 mark.  UMass is also undefeated, at 2-0.  Loyola and Rutgers are 2-1, with St. John's and Hobart at 1-2.  Georgetown, 0-2, and Penn State, 0-3, are both still looking for ECAC victories.

The Stags have won four straight games entering the contest at Georgetown.  The first three wins of the streak came on the road.  The Stags are outscoring foes  7.9-6.2 during the current streak not holding all four opponents to eight or less goals, including four goals by Penn State in an overtime contest.
