Mar 30, 2009
For the first time this season the Fairfield University men's lacrosse team has earned a top-20 ranking in the national polls after a road win at Hobart on Saturday. Freshman goalkeeper Charlie Cipriano (Williston Park, N.Y.) was named the ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week by the ECAC as well for his efforts in the win that kept the Stags perfect in league play. Ryan Mulford (Crownsville, Md.) was named to the ECAC weekly Honor Roll as well.
Fairfield, 5-2 overall, is ranked 19th in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, receiving 38 points. The Stags received nine points in the USILA Coaches Poll on Monday as well, good for 20th place. The win over Hobart also moved the Stags up one spot, to fourth, in the NEILA Coaches Poll.
The Stags are hosting Vermont on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. The game is the first at home for Fairfield since March 14 and is the only one of the current seven game stretch. The Catamounts enter the game with a 4-4 overall record, with three losses coming to teams ranked in the top-16 in the nation, at the time of the game, including #1 Virginia and #3 Notre Dame.
