Cipriano Named ECAC Lacrosse Defensive Player Of The Week
Feb 23, 2009
Fairfield University men's lacrosse freshman Charlie Cipriano (Williston Park, N.Y.) was named the ECAC Lacrosse League Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. It is the Stags first award of the season and just the second time that the Stags have had a player earn a weekly defensive award from the ECAC.
A graduate of Herricks High School, Cipriano made his first collegiate start in the Stags 10-9 win over Delaware on Saturday. He made 14 saves in the game, including six in the second quarter as the Stags opened a 2-2 tie into a 6-3 halftime lead. In the fourth quarter he made five saves, including a stop of a point blank shot that would have set up the Blue Hens to tie the game with their final tally, instead of closing to within one goal.
The Stags win over Delaware was the first in program history and also marked the eighth consecutive season they have won the season opener. Fairfield will take to the road on Feb. 28 to play at Ohio State.
