Men's Lacrosse Begins 2009 Campaign At Home Versus Delaware Saturday
Feb 19, 2009
The Fairfield University men's lacrosse team will begin its 2009 season at home on Saturday, hosting the University of Delaware. The Blue Hens will be playing their third game of the year and are 1-1. The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
Fairfield and Delaware are meeting for the fourth-time, with the Blue Hens leading the series 3-0-0. The first meeting came in 1995, a 23-2 victory for the Blue Hens in Delaware. A year later the two teams met at Loyola College, with the Blue Hends earning a 15-9 victory. The squads met the last time in 1998, a 16-7 win at Fairfield, in the season opener for the Stags.
Fairfield is under the direction of a new head coach for the first time since 1996 as Andrew Copelan takes over the reigns of the program. Copelan comes to the Stags after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Maryland, where he helped recruit two of the top classes in the nation the last two years as the program's recruiting coordinator. He began his career as the head coach at Marist College, leading the Red Foxes to an 18-15 mark over two seasons, and leading the team to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Fans that can't make the game can watch via the B2 Network, for a per game fee, or view LiveStats for free. Tickets can be purchased at the gate on the day of the game. Adult tickets are $5, kids (under 12) and seniors are $3 and groups of 10 or more are $2 each.
