In a collaborative effort between the Departments of Athletics and Residential Life, Fairfield  University students will have an opportunity to show their spirit and pride in a new and  unique way this year. The Stag Cup will make its debut during the 2009-10 athletic calendar.

Eight teams will compete for the Cup with each student living area comprising the field. The teams will include: Jogues, Regis, Campion, Gonzaga, Loyola, The Village, Dolan, and The Townhouses. The competition will include contests during halftime of varsity athletic games throughout the year.

In the fall, events will take place during volleyball, men's soccer, and women's soccer games. Men's and women's basketball games will provide opportunities for winter Stag Cup events. The spring season will wrap things up with events taking place at men's and women's lacrosse games as well as softball games. Only two teams will compete at a time at selected event.

Points will be awarded to each competing team with five points going to the winner of a competition and three points going to the losing squad. And, two bonus points will be awarded to the team which brings the most residents from their living area.

One team will be declared the winner after each of the three seasons of fall, winter, and spring. An overall champion will be also crowned based on the yearly point totals. The overall champion will also be able to display the Stag Cup in their living area.

"The Stag Cup will bring together students from all corners of the campus and join them in competition against each other," Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing Roy Brown said.
