FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Five Fairfield University athletic teams were honored for their academic success by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) this afternoon as the organization announced its annual Academic Progress Rate (APR) Public Recognition Awards The Stags baseball, men's cross country, softball, men's tennis, and women's tennis were honored by the national organization.
The NCAA recognizes programs that posted an APR in the top ten percent of all programs in that particular sport. At Fairfield University, the baseball, men's cross country, softball, and men's tennis were also honored last season by the NCAA for their respective APR.
"I am very proud that five of our teams were recognized by the NCAA," Director of Athletic Eugene P. Doris said. "This honor shows the commitment that our student athletes have toward being successful both athletically and academically."
The APR looks at the current academic progress of student-athletes
who receive athletics aid or are recruited in sports that do not
offer athletics aid. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and
graduation as factors in the rate calculation and provides a much
clearer picture of the current academic culture in each sport.
